At Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2019 in San Diego, CA, DDW commemorated its 50th year as the premier meeting in gastroenterology, hepatology and surgery. Nearly 14,000 attendees helped us celebrate over four days of networking and world-class education that featured 813 original sessions (oral and poster), 4,229 posters and 291 exhibitor booths.
An SSAT joint symposium with the International Society of Digestive Surgery (ISDS) at DDW on Tuesday, May 21, featured a series of presentations covering the latest evidence-based updates on paraesophageal, inguinal, ventral and parastomal hernia repairs. Garth R. Jacobsen, MD, FACS, opened the symposium with a discussion of inguinal hernia repair.
Monday’s SSAT Maja and Frank G. Moody State-of-the-Art Lecturer David B. Hoyt, MD, FACS, offered suggestions for overcoming challenges associated with value-based health care models as they continue to evolve.

The annual AGA Recognition Awards honor the achievements of innovators and leaders in gastroenterology. During a reception Sunday evening, AGA celebrated members who contribute to the profession.
