Chicago: Start Looking Ahead

Digestive Disease Week® (DDW) 2017 is just a few months away. As we plan for a successful and education-packed meeting, we also want to make it easy for you to plan your downtime in the bustling host city of Chicago.

Many things have been said about this great American city, but there is one thing that most will agree on: there is never a shortage of things to do. Below we have highlighted some great activities that are happening during the week of DDW:

May 5

Chicago Cubs vs New York Yankees

Baseball: America’s favorite pastime. Arrive a day early to see the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs play against the New York Yankees at Wrigley field. Can’t make it on May 5? Don’t worry. There are also games on May 6 and 7.

May 6

Chicago Beer Classic

The city’s largest beer festival, Chicago Beer Classic celebrates over 100 unique beers on the grass of Soldier Field. Draft your perfect lineup of beers and cheers to the huge variety, including upcoming and undiscovered Chicago favorites.

Chicago’s Farmers’ Markets

Not a fan of beer? Check out one of Chicago’s many framer’s markets sprinkled throughout the city. The markets managed by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events sell fresh fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers. Some neighborhood markets also feature music programming, prepared foods and local artisan (non-food) vendors.

Maxwell Street Market

A Chicago tradition of bargains and bargaining with an international flavor, the Maxwell Street Market offers an eclectic mix of merchandise – from tools to tires, plus fresh produce, furniture, clothing, rare find and collectibles – plus some of the best Mexican and Latin street food in the city.

May 8

Haunted Chicago Tour

Explore the spookiest and infamous paranormal happenings throughout Chicago’s history when you go on the eerie Haunted Chicago Tour.

May 9

Destination Solar System

A show that’s out of this world. Destination Solar System is a live show that takes adventurous space explorers on an immersive tour of the Solar System. Set in the future, Destination Solar System flies audiences from one end of the Solar System to the other in under 30 minutes!
