Session: Empowerment, Success and Safety of Women in Gastroenterology on Saturday

Describe the session in a tweet: This session is meant to empower women to succeed in GI. It will identify resources for career advancement, how to get published and teach skills to prevent physical injury and mental fatigue.

What’s something interesting about the session that attendees might not know from reading the program description? Men are welcome to attend! Ergonomics and physician injury in endoscopy, an understudied area in GI, affects both men and women. This will be the focus of one of our session. Findings of the AGA Women’s Committee’s national survey on ergonomics will be presented.

Why did you decide to get into GI practice? I was drawn to the scope of GI diseases, that they encompasses all aspects of internal medicine. I like the mix of acute and chronic disorders, the use of innovative technology and the opportunity to perform procedures as well as work in translational research.

Favorite part of DDW®: Poster presentations in my areas of interest and meeting up with my GI colleagues.

I feel most successful when … I finish a paper or project on time.

If I could give one piece of advice it would be: Don’t forget to take care of yourself as you go about taking care of others.
