Session Description

In this state-of-the-art lecture, Dr. Garcia-Tsao will present an update in the management of varices, variceal hemorrhage, and other complications of cirrhosis vis-à-vis strategies that reduce portal pressure. The session will feature 30 minutes of live Q&A.

After attending the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe stages of cirrhosis and main goals of care at each stage.
  • Identify main pathogenic mechanisms leading to portal hypertension.
  • Recognize therapies that act on these mechanisms and lead to a decrease in portal pressure.

Dr. Garcia-Tsao’s investigation focuses on cirrhosis, portal hypertension and related complications, having authored over 100 original research publications as well as several society guidelines and position papers. She served as president of AASLD in 2012 and is currently the director of the Clinical Core of the Yale Liver Center and the associate editor for the New England Journal of Medicine.
